What certifications should a UK MSP have
Useful MSP credentials depend on the service you are buying. Check cyber assurance, relevant technical qualifications and actual delivery experience rather than expecting one badge to prove everything.
Credentials worth discussing
- Cyber Essentials or Cyber Essentials Plus: useful evidence relating to defined technical security controls.
- ISO/IEC 27001: ask whether the certified information-security management scope covers the services and organisation you will use.
- Vendor credentials: relevant to the cloud, network or application platforms in your environment.
- Individual qualifications: useful when the qualified people actually work on your service.

Verify what the badge means
Ask for the certificate or provider directory entry, the named entity, covered sites and expiry information. For technical partnerships, establish the current status and relevant specialism.
A qualification held by one engineer does not establish that every technician has that skill. A certificate covering one business unit may not cover the service you are buying.
Do certifications guarantee reliable support
No. Also examine references, escalation processes, staffing cover and an example of meaningful reporting. Credentials should support the selection decision, not replace it.
