Can an MSP support your existing business software

An MSP can often support the environment around your existing software, but application support and integration must be agreed separately. Compatibility should be checked before service takeover.
Build an application register
Record the software name, version, owner, hosting arrangement, licence supplier and business purpose. Include dependencies such as databases, authentication, printers and data feeds.
Then ask the provider to classify each application:
- Fully supported within the managed agreement.
- Supported for initial troubleshooting and vendor escalation.
- Covered through a separate specialist arrangement.
- Unsupported, with a remediation or replacement recommendation.
Give integrations their own owner
A fault between your CRM and accounting platform can fall between suppliers. Agree who checks the data flow, owns credentials and coordinates investigation.
For older systems, review the risk of unsupported software and restricted update options. The service may need compensating controls or a migration plan, not simply another support agent.
Can an MSP integrate any two applications
No. Integration depends on supported interfaces, licensing, security constraints and vendor cooperation. Custom development usually needs a separate scope, testing and ongoing ownership.
Will changing MSP mean replacing our software
Not necessarily. A good discovery process identifies what can remain and what creates unacceptable risk or support gaps.
Next step: send your application register to the provider and require a support decision for every critical system.
